Bali – Culture
With good reason this mysterious and beautiful island is known as the Island of the Gods. No matter where your Bali villa is located you and your family will never be far from one of Bali's spectacular temples.
While on holiday you are guaranteed to experience a wonderful myriad temple ceremony. Every few days the Balinese gather at the temple dressed in their immaculate traditional clothing. You can see the lorry loads of men, women and children transported from their village to the temple.
Everyday the local women place beautiful offerings outside the temples and their homes. The carefully handcrafted offering can also be seen on the sidewalks, stairwells and ledges. The significance of the offerings is to wish for peace in the world and give thanks to the Gods.
Hear the unique sounds of the metal instruments and bamboo flutes that echo the streets as you drive home to your Bali villa after a fun day out. The same instruments accompany the traditional Balinese dance which is definitely worth seeing while on holidays in Bali.
Bali – The Island of a Thousand Temples
No Bali villa holiday is complete without exploring some of Bali's magical and magnificent temples. Temples that you and your family should visit include;
Tanah Lot – located in the Tabanan regency. The ancient Hindu shrine is perched on the edge of the rocks amidst the constant crashing waves. Stroll up to the restaurants, to watch the captivating sunset. Along the way pass by the Kopi Luwak coffee cafe. Have a coffee and see the civet cats unwind after a hard days work!
Uluwatu Temple – The Balinese sea temple located in Uluwatu. It shares a similar backdrop to Tanah Lot, however set on the cliff top, 70 metres above the crashing waves, the sea views are more dramatic.
Goa Gajah – located on the outskirts of Ubud. Goa Gajah translates to 'Elephant Cave'. It was originally built next to the temple courtyard for meditation purposes.
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple – located in Tabanan regency. This picturesque temple is located next to Beratan Lake and protected by the mountains, providing a beautiful dreamy backdrop.
Tirta Empul - located in Manukaya village. It's a Hindu Balinese water temple consisting of a bathing structure where you can enter the water and be purified by it's natural spring water.
Pura Gunung Kawi - this unique archaeology site overlooks the Pakerisan River in central Bali. Take the steps down to see the ancient shrines carved into the rock face.
Bali – Surf

Our Story
In 2005, John Paul Donnelly, began his luxury villa journey. He spent three years building resorts and holiday apartments in Alanya, Turkey, along with his brother, Joe. The concept was to create the most luxurious villas on the Turkish coastline and provide clients, along with their family and friends, the opportunity to enjoy exclusive holidays together.
By 2008, after the successful development of 3 resorts, JP had well and truly fallen into the world of villa rentals. With a portfolio of 6 villas and a desire to explore new places, he decided it was time to take the villa rental business outside of Turkey. He wanted to give his clients access to beautiful holiday rentals in destinations across the globe.
The expanding villa rental company was rebranded in 2011 to 5 Star Villa Holidays, and today 5 Star Villa Holidays offers over 10,000 luxury villas around the world.
JP and his partner, Helena are currently travelling the globe, devoted to hand selecting the best villas and property management companies, and giving them their stamp of approval! 5 Star Villa Holidays' ambition goes beyond being an ordinary holiday rental company. It is a marketplace for luxurious and exclusive villas around the world.
