Best local attractions:
The Troodos Mountains and Akamas National Park are the two biggest attractions in the local area.
Up in the hills, you can hike, cycle and drive through the Troodos Mountains. Covered in over 750 plants and wildlife that make up the National Forest, this is one of the biggest attractions in Cyprus, dotted here and there with vineyards, villages and Byzantine churches.
Along the coast, the Akamas Peninsula National Park is an enormous nature reserve that stretches up into the hills. Rugged gorges, valleys, bays and cliffs make this a remarkable place. Some of the park is best seen from the sea on a boat tour or during a jeep safari.
The area is home to around 530 species of plants as well as over 200 species of exotic wildlife, including many rare birds, butterflies and animals.
The biggest attractions at Akamas National Park include its nature trails, Avakas Gorge, Fontana Amorosa and the Baths Of Aphrodite.

Located at the very beginning of Akamas, Avakas Gorge is a striking, narrow canyon with walls up to 30 metres high whilst Fontana Amorosa is a picturesque, rocky bay with a spectacular rock formation, said to be where Aphrodite liked to bring her lovers. Nearby, the Baths of Aphrodite is a pretty spring hidden inside a curtain of firs and pine trees.
Throughout this region, you will come across lots of traditional villages and vineyards where some of the country's finest wines are made. Take the opportunity to explore the villages, many have delicious tavernas and small museums charting the history of the local area.
